Lake Oswego School District Lakeridge Middle School

Flexible and Sustainable

The new 150,000-square-foot Lakeridge Junior High School is a learning-centric, flexible, and sustainable community building. Serving 1,100 students, the school is intended to act as a sanctuary for the community in the chance of natural disaster. This facility is unique in that it has no hydronic, chilled, or heating water, in other words, zero combustion-generating equipment. We partnered with the entire project community to provide commissioning services from detailed design reviews to integrated issue resolution.

Interactive Natural Ventilation

We were commissioned to provide a serviceable and maintainable building and implement a user-friendly, energy-efficient natural ventilation sequence, which would allow students to control the opening and closing of the windows. When the outside temperature is below space temperature, and space temperature is above the cooling set point, students can push a button to open the windows. Both the air handler and damper shut off, allowing air to flow in through the windows and out through the damper to allow for air circulation throughout the classrooms.

Opportunity to Elevate

While testing lighting controls with the lighting controls contractor, we discovered the system was pre-purchased and ready to integrate but not listed in the project scope. As experienced providers, we understand the benefits of integrated control systems and knew this would be a good path for the district. We worked with the lighting and building automation controls contractors to create a practical plan that would integrate all the building occupancy sensors into two different control systems. This integration allows facility staff to better maintain and manage building systems based on occupancy.

In addition to Lakeridge Junior High, we performed commissioning services for the renovation of seven elementary schools and two high schools. As a trusted resource to the district, we were retained to provide commissioning services for the next round of capital improvement projects. Upcoming projects include the replacement of a middle and elementary school; modernized science, technology, and engineering labs at both high schools; and addressing priority capital repairs to improve accessibility and safety upgrades in all facilities.
